THE MAKING OF A CLAY ENTERPRISE
Since 2004 Waikato Ceramics has been producing quality clays for potters. What began with a single white clay body has now expanded to six clays, casting slip, and a full range of underglaze colours. As a second-generation family owned business, our philosophy is to remain grounded, approachable, and to work closely with our customers. We believe strongly in being able to stand by the quality of our products. We are hands on for the production of our products, from the first shovel of clay, to the finished bagged product ready to distribute.
THE PERFECT WAY TO MAKE CLAY
At Waikato Ceramics we believe the way we do things gives potters superior quality clays. We have used our earth science knowledge and artistic talents to develop clay bodies in the mid to high temperature range. We mix specific blends of clays and raw materials to formulate densely packed clay bodies and then use slurry mixing and filter pressing to ensure wider firing ranges with fewer defects. Before bagging, all our clays are run through a de-airing pugmill to age the clay and give it the plasticity we know potters yearn for.

THE CLAY WORKS
Waikato Ceramics is situated near the small rural township of Orini. Our factory re-purposes a building once used for honey blending and packing, continuing the tradition of 'from the earth' production. From our factory we produce all of our Macs Mud clays and Kiwi Underglaze using the best possible raw materials we can source.
